Kaskade!

I was watching an episode of Gossip Girl (the most awesome show ever, of course). Anyhow, a song by Kaskade came up, 'Fire in your new shoes'. I was obsessed with that song throughout September last year. Hard to believe, I almost fogot how much I loved it. The video is pretty amazing too...

This song should have been called, "All of the stars" instead. lol. just kidding. But for reals though, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John, John Legend... *whew* + Rihanna's outfit... o.O #deep
I don't really like the video, but the song is amaze!

LONG LIVE MCQUEEN!

Alexander McQueen died on 11 February, 2010 (aged 40), so this is a bit late. McQueen was a remarkable man. he shared his creativity and vision with the whole world. The whole world lost a star on that fateful day, the 11th of February, 2010. McQueen will continue to live on in our hearts. Celebs continue to pay their tributes to McQueen ( i am sure this would last for a long while)
Sarah Burton has now taken over McQueen's role. I hope she does a good job. McQueen would have loved to see the company grow.
“I’m 40 now, but I want this to be a company that lives way beyond me, and I believe that customers are more important to making that happen than press. When I’m dead, hopefully this house will still be going. On a spaceship. Hopping up and down above earth.” (Alexander McQueen, Love magazine interview, 2010)

Long live McQueen,

For the love of ANKARA

I am African, Nigerian to be precise, and i am utterly in love with ankara (African print textiles.. :s). The fashion industry in Nigeria continues to grow each day, and it is refreshing to see the way Nigerian designers have made use of the local textiles. A Nigerian designer worthy of note is Ituen Basi. Almost (or all... :s) of her work is done with ankara (even the accessories!!).

You can check out the official Ituen Basi site here
A lot of international fashion designers have started to incorporate the African traditional materials/ textiles (ankara) into their work. I really like what Gwen Stefani has been doing with ankara:

A lot of celebrities have been spotted (hehe... now i feel like watching Gossip Girl) wearing African print as well

ankara brogues

Can't wait to get back to Nigeria (going home for March break yay!!!!) and make some awesome dresses (with ankara of course). As a matter of fact, I am seriously considering wearing Ankara for my formal. We'll see how that goes.
Till next time,

Pretty neat blogs

I am a total blog junkie. I stalk ALL sorts of blogs from tumblr to wordpress and blogger (most def). But there are some blogs which i truly love for some reason.
Daisy-Mak: a blog created by a 17 year old Nigerian based in England. I really love her style. Its very refreshing. She was recently featured in Vogue-Italia (i know...pretty impressive). I hope she forgives me for putting up a picture of her.. :S
Check out her blog here
I also love The Glamourai., by Kelly Framel.

Her style is truly amazing. She not only has such good taste in clother, she also has good taste in furniture. Her blog also features a lot of DIY ideas. (i got a few tricks from there... :D).Be sure to check it out soonest. http://www.theglamourai.com/
Karla's closet by Karla Deras is also amazing. She's got impeccable style and is really creative.

 Check it out here

Emerging black models

Today I was reading the March edition of Vogue in my school's library (don't judge me lol). And i came across a section with black models. I believe emerging models and some others like Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman and I was speechless. I am very happy to know that black women are making it in the industry. The names of the models are: Anais Mali and Arlenis Sosa.
Here are some pictures from the Vogue article and some of Arlenis.

Marina and the Diamonds.

Marina Diamandis. Oh how i love her music. When i saw ' Marina and the Diamonds', i initially thought it was a group/ band. Just like 'Florence and the Machines'. She makes amazing music. this is one of my fave songs by her- "I am not a robot".
I've seen two videos for this song, but i prefer this one.
Enjoy,

Jameela Jamil

I have a crush on Jameela Jamil ( and no i am not a lesbian). she is just very beautiful, stylish and entertaining young woman. she looks fresh both on the red carpet and off.
I didn't even know she existed till like last month and i have a serious crush on her.
She was  featured on Who What Wear (a fashion blog), as the girl of the month. Check it out here. she's always  on there actually. i think she's amazing and has a lot of potential.

John Galliano arrested!

I was very shocked when heard John Galliano- the design director of Christian Dior got arrested and suspended from work. I mean, it is JOHN GALLIANO. oh well, he should have known better. i mean, racism... really? I bet a lot of Jews purchase Dior clothing. I'm glad he has been suspended from work. (Aww yh!!) You can read up the article here
This reminds me of the incident between Oprah and Tommy Hilfiger on her show. He said, "If i had known that African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians would buy my clothes, I would not have made them so nice," and "I wish those people would not buy my clothes-they were made for the upper-class whites".
 O.O
One thing i know is that he has GUTS!! Oprah asked him to leave her show nicely. (Way to go Oprah!)
My point is, we are in the 21st century, yet there a lot of racists. It pains me to know that there are educated people who judge people based on their skin color, religion, origin. Oh well, i guess its just one of those things that would never be fully eradicated.
